A Minnesota judge on Friday sentenced former police officer Kim Potter to two years for fatally shooting a Black motorist 10 months ago.
Hennepin County Judge Regina Chu handed down the “significant downward” punishment for the former Brooklyn Center police officer after emotional courtroom statements from the victim's loved ones and the defendant herself.
Chu ordered Potter to spend two-thirds of her sentence behind bars and one-third of it on supervised release. She's already served 58 days behind bars, which will go to her credit.
I've certainly had my doubts about the judge since she flatly refused to consider allowing Potter to remain out on bail prior to sentencing. Potter has been in solitary confinement for the past months due to concerns for her safety. Solitary has deeply affected Potter's mental health.
The compounded charges to capture all things greater and lesser is unreasonable, in my opinion. At least we now know the judge is an Obama fan.
That’d be a shame if Mittholeapolis-St MittHole got a little “toasty” over this kangaroocourt verdict...
She should have been a Capitol cop.
You can shoot unarmed people dead and people act like you’re a hero.
In case you haven't noticed, that is the common thread of all of these BLM incidents.
I don't agree. Her heart may have been in the right place, but her legal mind was on vacation. The prosecution conflated the legal terminology to allow them to misuse the term reckless to persuade the jury to deliver a guilty verdict on a criminal first degree manslaughter charge. This defendant was improperly charged and improperly found guilty. The charge should have been dismissed. She made a mistake, and therefore could not be convicted of reckless manslaughter.
This may be overturned on appeal, but not before she serves her 16 months of her sentence. She will have been released before the justice system can correct the error.
This is exactly what the political masters wanted. It gives them cover until after the next election, after which all of this will be forgotten. Hooray for the corrupt prosecution.
Common thread is correct. Every time the situation was caused by the perp NOT THE POLICE!
She is a process queen. Apparently that didn’t help her when she was arrested for DUI.
They could save a few lives if they taught Black kids not to run from cops and to actually obey their directives.
Minneapolis temp down to 11ºF by 7:00PM. Temp down to -3ºF by Saturday at dawn.
“Would have obeyed LAWFUL ORDERS none of what happened would have occurred”
Yep, a lot these situations occur because blacks refuse to comply with police direction.
Rodney king, Michael Brown and on and on.
While pretty funny Chris Rock actually offers some very sound real world advice for interacting with police.
For a lot of us it’s just common sense....but common sense ain’t so common any more.
*caution* explicit language
Yay! Riots!
The violence in Minneapolis has already started. The community didn’t get their sentence so they will get reparations at the Mall of America. There is nothing left in Minneapolis worth looting.
Oh, do tell us the details...
The already started
They'll probably burn it down in a mostly peaceful protest.
Post a link to your source, please.
This is what angers me. If that low life piece of crap would have obeyed LAWFUL ORDERS none of what happened would have occurred. So now she pays the price for a privileged waste of space.

The black officer arresting Dante panicked. Kim Potter stepped in to help the rookie black cop. He had no honor to speak on her behalf. Today this LEO is training new cops.
DUI??? Never said it.
You can probably remove the /sarc, unfortunately.
