Today’s Crisis Over Ukraine Was Predictable and Avoidable
ACURA ^ | February 15, 2022 | by Jack F. Matlock, Jr.

Posted on 02/17/2022 8:19:03 AM PST by mvonfr

Today we face an avoidable crisis that was predictable, actually predicted, willfully precipitated, but easily resolved by the application of common sense.

We are being told each day that war may be imminent in Ukraine. Russian troops, we are told, are massing at Ukraine’s borders and could attack at any time. American citizens are being advised to leave Ukraine and dependents of the American Embassy staff are being evacuated. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president has advised against panic and made clear that he does not consider a Russian invasion imminent. Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, has denied that he has any intention of invading Ukraine. His demand is that the process of adding new members to NATO cease and that in particular, Russia has assurance that Ukraine and Georgia will never be members. President Biden has refused to give such assurance but made clear his willingness to continue discussing questions of strategic stability in Europe. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has made clear it has no intention of implementing the agreement reached in 2015 for reuniting the Donbas provinces into Ukraine with a large degree of local autonomy—an agreement with Russia, France and Germany which the United States endorsed.

Maybe I am wrong—tragically wrong—but I cannot dismiss the suspicion that we are witnessing an elaborate charade, grossly magnified by prominent elements of the American media, to serve a domestic political end.

Jack F. Matlock served as US ambassador to the USSR (1987-1991).

Unlike *odd* people that run the US foreign policy now he is actually an old school diplomat who knows the region well and seemingly stayed on top of the situation. -- thus his opinion should be of interest.

Since we got a bunch of appeasers running our foreign policy, we should follow the path of least appeasement, like water. We allow Ukraine into NATO and wave around that agreement like Chamberlain, and we can loudly proclaim “peace in our time”.

Then we can negotiate for Ukrainian neutrality from a position of strength. If PootyPoot wants to invade, then he just invaded NATO.

“we are witnessing an elaborate charade, grossly magnified by prominent elements of the American media, to serve a domestic political end.”

~~~
Who stands to benefit by this charade. Hillary Clinton?
She pulls Putin’s strings?
She is slick and has her tendrils in a lot of places, but I find that ridiculous.
Not saying that I even buy that it’s a charade, although it’s possible, but I would ask who has pull in Moscow and who might benefit from such a charade.
Is it possible that China wants to make a move soon, and this is meant to be a diversion?
elements of the American media, to serve a domestic political end
That's mostly what the American media does whenever the Democrats are in power.
“Who stands to benefit by this charade.”
Matlock suggests that Biden benefits, once there is a war, everyone forgets about small things like inflation, crime, illegals, mandates, etc. — this is the “domestic political end”.
One other possibility is that Putin and Biden actually have a deal to address Russian security demands — and this is a comedy that somehow will lead to the agreed-upon result while showing how macho Biden is. (I’ve seen this opinion expressed by some commentators who are often right.)
Not far fetched at all.........after he bungled and botched the Afghan exit, the beady eyed fool is desperate for a win
Jack F. Matlock, Jr.writes: "I cannot dismiss the suspicion that we are witnessing an elaborate charade, grossly magnified by prominent elements of the American media, to serve a domestic political end. Facing rising inflation, the ravages of Omicron, blame (for the most part unfair) for the withdrawal from Afghanistan, plus the failure to get the full support of his own party for the Build Back Better legislation, the Biden administration is staggering under sagging approval ratings just as it gears up for this year’s congressional elections. Since clear “victories” on the domestic woes seem increasingly unlikely, why not fabricate one by posing as if he prevented the invasion of Ukraine by “standing up to Vladimir Putin”?"
Very interesting, it sure sounds like Biden to me.
Putin will invade - and likely has already invaded.
He has no choice. Nato pushed him into it.
Plus half the country of Ukraine are native Russian speakers.
He will take more than expected, but not all Ukraine.
Is it possible that China wants to make a move soon, and this is meant to be a diversion?
*************
I think we will soon see that the two were related. At the very least both timed to kick off after the Olympics are done. And of course both intended to fully exploit the weakness of the present administration.
Its also possible that China could come out with an even stronger supportive statement for Russia vis-a-vis the Ukraine situation. And vice versa whenever China makes its move against Taiwan.
Its starting to look like what in pro wrestling was called a tag team match.
Even the administration has to be aware of this connection. I don’t see how it could escape them.
This may just be the ultimate “Wag the Dog” to divert attention from the despicable domestic acts of the Jihad Junta, the nailing of Hillary, and the collapse of the US economy, and not even mentioning the foreign invasion of the USA by ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. The imposition of war powers, after the merd hits the atmospheric moving device in Ukraine and the rest of Europe and Asia, will then allow the Junta to make the domestic moves they have been salivating to do. The next few weeks are going to be very trying for all.
That was a cogent analysis of the motivations for getting the country so deeply involved in the Ukraine mess.
Classic wag the dog political strategy.
The only thing Putin wanted in Ukraine was stability. That Russia can not accept instability here on its border is a given. Trump supplied Putin with the stability he needed. Biden epitomizes instability in the area and the rest of the world. Putin has no other choice than to stabilize the area himself. People need to accept the reality and necessity of the spheres of influence here that have so far saved hundreds of millions from death in WWIII.
