Amid tensions over a possible invasion of Ukraine, Russian aircraft intercepted U.S. Navy patrol planes in an "unprofessional" manner three separate times over the weekend, in one incident coming within five feet of an American plane, U.S. officials said Wednesday.
The Boeing-made U.S. P-8A aircraft are designed for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, according to the Navy.
"The U.S. flight crews were flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean Sea at the time of these intercepts," DOD spokesman Capt. Mike Kafka said in a statement Wednesday.

it’s BS
Got old after the second russia, russia, russia.
We have a president with the brains of a potato. Of course the deep state wants a war.
Our planes shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Remember 10-15 years ago when a Chinese jet did that? Got a bit too close and chopped the pilot up.
Forced landing, and then the crew was held for awhile and the C130 was reverse engineered.
"We mooned them out the portals.
They mooned us back."
My dad was a Navy recon pilot during the Cold War. Spying on Russia was pretty much what they did. 😏
From Okinawa, from Alaska, from the Mediterranean…and all kinds of other spots.
Lol.. I just watched that (again, for who knows home many times) last night :D
Was it Maverick or Ice Man?
I’ve long thought that Russian aircraft, more or less, look like something out of a Flash Gordon book or an illustrated Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. (excepting the SU-30, which to my eyes is beautiful.)
Probably dating myself here. Sorry.
Love that movie.
Sweet! 👍
Actually it was an EP-3 and it was forced to land on Hainan Island. April 2001. I worked with the Flight Engineer from that aircraft until 2015. Lost track after I retired. Nice guy with some interesting stories.
WWIII started when the Chicoms conducted a biological warfare attack on the world.

Yup, that was a P-8 and they had to land on Hainan Island, I believe. That was under GHWB, too.
Thought it was a P-8, not the older EP-3.
Either way, I remember it - and I believe it was under GHWB.
It was an EP-3E Aries. 4 engine prop job based out of NAS Whidbey Island.
It’s always so gay the way the Navy always call that “unprofessional”. Our leaders are an embarrassment.
Well, they could have been truthful and just stated that the Russians are drunk again.
the C130 was reverse engineered.
