Argentina becomes the 20th of 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to sign up for the Belt & Road..should make it easier for Argentina to obtain funding from the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the BRICS New Development Bank.

China has also built a radio astronomy and satellite tracking station in Argentina....and in January, China announced it had completed the purchase of 'Neo Lithium' of Canada and its 3Q lithium brine project in Argentina. ...the project “is one of the largest and highest-grade projects of its kind in the world. ....The property is the fifth-largest lithium brine project in the world, and ranks among the top three in terms of grades.”

In addition to that, Telecom Argentina began to roll out 5G telecom services last year in partnership with Huawei and Nokia.

Currency swaps between the Argentine and Chinese central banks have added to Argentina’s foreign currency reserves. This should stabilize the economic situation and allow the Chinese to continue expanding their role in Argentina’s economy. They are not wasting any time.

China gets their hands on yet more lithium resources. To go with their holdings in Canada and Chile, and who knows wherever else.

Their activity...and Russia’s too, in Argentina is heavy...and they certainly aren’t wasting any time.

One thing about Putin and XI....no matter what the crisis is in the world or their country they continue to travel and expand their influence on the world stage.

Biden barely gets out of his chair.

If not now they certainly will notice....this breaks the IMF/US debt ‘hold’ it puts on Argentina...and why Argentina will lead the way for other S. American countries to do likewise.

The Chinese are no nonsense traders. The Argentines won’t be allowed to run up debts, declare bankruptcy and renege on the Chinese. This time they will ration meat and bread to their own people. Their meat production and wheat harvests will be sent to China to service their debts to China.

Demographics matter...

We've got S.Americans basically walking to the US Border....It would be nothing to travel from Argentina to the border with China/Russia trafficking their people in to snipe around....

The entire article is a pretty good read....and it mentions these as well if I recall.
At any rate Argentina’s in the pockets of China and Russia and moving forward. Could be a “foothold” there and once other nations see their investment might just jump on board too.

“...The Argentines won’t be allowed to run up debts, declare bankruptcy...”

Companies going into debt will also be required to place Chinese on their boards of directors as well. These are all things the Chinese have been doing throughout Africa.

To me, the Chinese influence building throughout South America and Canada is one of most serious security dangers we face as a nation. They have contractual control of over 50 seaports in Africa, and I don’t know many in South America. I believe they have both ends of the Panama Canal thanks to Jimmy Carter. Trudeau is enamored with China, as is half of our Congress. We are looking big-time problems ahead.

No wonder Nazis used to love the place, and it gave birth to Che Guevara.

Argentina is the whitest country I’ve ever visited. I went down there for work (we were building a plant in Bahìa Blanca) several times in the late 90s/early 00s. The indigenous population had been “ethnically cleansed” about 100 years prior and the only black guy I ever saw there was one of our project managers who traveled with us a couple of times.

It is a very European population.

I’m not at all surprised that they’re kissing up to the Chinese and Russians, though. Seems like they’ve always had very opportunistic (and weak) leadership.

I think at some point China is going to become over extended and the labor unions in Argentina are only friendly as long as they get the jobs. Since “Avita” Argentina has screwed every country doing business with them.
