After leading Team USA to a silver medal in the team figure skating competition and winning his first Olympic gold in the men’s individual event, Nathan Chen has been slammed on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
The 22-year-old Chinese American was labeled a “traitor” on the social media platform for choosing to represent the United States, and was even told to “get out of China.” After his victory Thursday, some on Weibo complained that Chen was “too white” and Americanized, citing a long list of examples where they thought Chen was “insulting China” with his actions.
Chen has previously refused to speak Chinese in interviews, claiming that his Mandarin “isn’t very good.” The Yale student put his support behind American ice dancer Evan Bates’ condemnation of China’s human rights abuses in an October interview. At the time, Bates came down hard on China’s “awful” treatment of the Uyghur people. The US did not send any diplomats to the Winter Olympics in Beijing because of the host country’s “egregious human rights abuses and atrocities.”

News today is reporting internet troll crap in paper newspapers.
Speaking of traitors: China recruited several from the United States. Nathan Chen is a patriot.
Nathan is an American, right?
China is the most insecure and paranoid country on earth.
Yes. If he was a citizen of China, he would have “disappeared” by now.
They’re just jealous.
We have better Chinese than the Chinese.
They rule through fear. Fear is a selfish emotion. Selfish people are fearful and fearful people are selfish... all wrapped up in what they have to lose.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is love. Loving is giving and outward looking. It is not afraid because it has nothing lose... only give.
Happy Valentines Day.

Which is, why we cancelled our subscriptions to the Sac Bee and the SF Gay Rhonical about 3 decades ago and the WSJ a little later.
We cut our tv cables about 10 years ago and only stream the non B$ stuff.
Living north of Gay Frisco voids any so called local tv news.
We get local police Nixle’s to know what areas to avoid driving through or to.
ABCNNBCBS are no goes, 24/7.
I do monitor Fox.com and avoid known liberals.
Our other sources of news: Not the Bee and FR.
Great comment.
Indeed we do and Nathan Chen is one of the very best. Figure skating is my fave sport and I’ve followed his career since he was a little boy skating in Jr competitions. A fabulous mom didn’t hurt, as she made him get straight A’s in all his classes in order to pay for his trainers and other fees.
Mom got a bargain and we got a terrific champion. Brilliant young man.
Hope he doesn’t have any close family in the Chinese sphere of influence.
Yes.
I grew up in the Bay Area.
I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I hope the U.S. women who competed with China, eventually realize the truth and come back to the U.S. I strongly disagree with what they did, but I hope they look back on it as the foolishness of youth, and learn a lesson.
Me too, but I hope we also get to keep Nathan Chen
Trump should invite him to Mar Largo.
Good for him.
Why would he rep China anyway?
I mean, I know there are traitors who have gone Chinese because of their ooose ties to China, as well as other countries, but since they didn’t have to do that, why should he?
The Internet really wasn’t much of anything until 20 years ago. And with texting and twitter is when reporting regular people’s opinions as “news” really came about.
So what really stopped the subs for you 3 decades back?
Interesting.
We have the best Germans too.
Perhaps the best people manage to escape their hellholes.
I’m happy as long as they pledge allegiance to our Constitution.
If the guy was born in the USA, I would assume that he is an American. Loyal to the USA would be normal for him.
