470 billion miles is not very much in astronomical terms—one light-year is about 6 trillion miles. The far side of the large galaxy is probably tens of thousands of light-years further away than the closer side.

I’ve often wondered, if the the universe is expanding from the initial big bang, does that mean that there is a far edge and beyond that nothing exists yet?
