Glenn Youngkin’s brass-knuckled conservatism
Spectator Workd ^ | February 6, 2022 | Matt Purple

How is the mood in Virginia these days? It appears to be a bit litigious.

Last month, seven school boards announced they were suing Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin over his executive order banning mask mandates in schools. The ACLU is also suing Youngkin over the order, despite the fact that it used to sue to protect liberties, not infringe on them. Youngkin, meanwhile, is suing the Loudoun County School Board, which is also being sued by parents incensed over its mask policies as well as all of its other policies … This brings us back to Youngkin. The man who campaigned in a fleece vest has apparently traded it in for a Kevlar. Youngkin hasn’t just taken the mask fetishists to court; he’s established a tip line so parents can report woke teachers to the government. He’s banned the instruction of critical race theory, opened an investigation into the clown-car Loudoun County school board, and replaced the state’s “equity” office with an emphasis on opportunity and protecting the unborn, then appointed as its head a former Heritage Foundation exec.

He’s blazed through left-wing shibboleths with surprising speed — and progressives have noticed. Recently, at a grocery store in Northern Virginia, Youngkin was accosted by a shopper for not wearing a mask. “You’re in Alexandria!” the woman shouted. “Read the room, buddy!” (Given that “reading the room” in Alexandria means double-masking outdoors while walking a rodent-sized dog that’s also double-masked, I think Youngkin’s optics are going to be okay.) …

Northern Virginia is chock full of lawyers and they are stewing because this last election didn’t go their way. It was all about rejecting a Clintin influenced McAuliffe. Kaine and the other Warner are still unable to represent in any way, shape, or form, any and all opposed to their peculiar form of wasting tax dollars.

Just last month the trailer park crowd and the grifter blogs were crying about Youngkin claiming he was a “RINO” and they were still fuming that Terry didn’t steal the election.

Oh, happy day! /sarc
Schools are still masking kids and teaching CRT. They are making a mockery of this rino governor. The fact that these schools are completely at ease to be sitting in defiance of The Governor’s legal order says it all.

He’s only been in office 24 days. Yesterday’s headline shows he’s already seeing progress: “THE SUPREME COURT OF VIRGINIA DISMISSES CASTILLO V. YOUNGKIN”

Youngkin’s brass knuckles are the issues that he is raising and his avoidance of angry personal attacks.

There are about 125 school districts in the state. 7 are fighting him, he already liberated the 118 others.

“I can’t help but wonder if he’s setting up as the next GOP controlled oppo prez candidate.”

Could be...but then many, if not most, here figured Trump would be no different, particularly given the way he played ball in NYC and gave money to Skunk Cabbage in the past.

And he ultimately may have been. Good controlled opp keeps up the right appearance while ultimately delivering the big wins for the powers that be.

One major issue Youngkin ran on was that on day one he would repeal the VA gas tax to lower gas prices. Gas has gone up since he took office. So, in that respect, Youngkin is just another lying clown of a politician.

I imagine the gas tax is legiation as are all taxes. How is a governor going to repeal already passed on the books legislation? It will take legislation to udue it. That will take time. Does the GOP have both legislative houses in Virginia. I think I read they just have one. So repealing the gasx tax will be a steep hill to climb.

Exactly. It's just another example of how the Democrat-owned media operates in every situation: Forget the big picture. When reporting on a Republican leader, focus on the malcontents who oppose and/or actively hate him.

That focus also creates the illusion that there are far more malcontents than there actually are.

From Youngkin's website:

The cost of living is rising for Virginians, and people are leaving the Commonwealth to look for jobs and start lives elsewhere. Glenn will tackle the rising cost of living and cut costs for Virginians by:

Eliminating Virginia’s Grocery Tax & Suspending the Recent Gas Tax Hike for 12 Months.

To me, that sound like he could eliminate the tax unilaterally for 12 months. So he's either not taking that action, or he lied about being able to do it. Either way, it's just another example of politicians using outright lies to get elected. No matter what party they are in.

I’m quite glad that Youngkin is turning out to be a fighter, rather than a GOPee toady.

Yes, me too. And he is working with a divided legislature to get the 12-month gas tax relief and other laws changed to the benefit of Virginia citizens.

Politicians are who they are. But, if purity and blazing speed are your test, tell us which contemporary politicians have done everything they’ve said they are going to do within the first 30 days?
