China’s Forever War Against Covid-19
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Feb. 4, 2022 | Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.

China has nothing like the critical-care facilities of Western cities. In dozens of sprawling metropolises larger than any in the West, China would be faced with millions more severely ill and dying people than it could possibly care for. An early study found the original Wuhan outbreak, if repeated in the U.S., would require 26 intensive-care beds per 100,000 citizens. The U.S. had these beds. China didn’t and still doesn’t.

And yet one irony of the leadership’s decision to treat zero Covid as a national triumph has been a slowness to expand hospital capacity. Its go-it-alone approach on vaccine development, another supposed triumph, has saddled China with inferior vaccines against Omicron and Delta. It continues strangely to emphasize Chinese traditional medicine, which Xi Jinping calls a “national treasure,” as a treatment for Covid.

Chinese Communists rule by “campaign” - focus government, society, entertainment, media propaganda on a project / goal. Keep the sheep occupied. Covid is an opportunity

They also live in fear - fear of opposition, fear of error, fear of the public. China has both a poor, and rapidly aging population. Deaths could be high. Covid is a political threat

China has both a poor, and rapidly aging population. Deaths could be high.

If China behaved similar to the U.S., they would probably suffer up to 5,000,000 deaths by now. Apparently, they are not willing to pay that price. It's a bonus that they can keep people in "fear" so they are easier to manipulate.

“...slowness to expand hospital capacity...”

The author is a comedian. Does he now know what’s happened in the US over the past 20 years?

What a lie. China, like our execrable Biden Regime, is using Covid to punish people who are not falling in line. It is all Ptompkin Panic Theater.

--- "And yet one irony of the leadership's decision to treat zero Covid as a national triumph has been a slowness to expand hospital capacity."

Zero Covid? Then the worldometers and JHU sites report correctly as regards Communist China? Looking back only a few days....

Worldometer, as of 25 January 2022 ---

( 5,624,631 "official" Covid deaths globally / 7,922,649,789 "official" global population ) x 100 = 0.072 %

Worldometer, on China ---

China, ranked 120th, has 4,636 Covid deaths over twenty-five months of this pandemic.

( 4,636 "official workdometers" Covid deaths in China / 1,439,323,776 Chinese ) x 100 = 0.00032% mortality rate.

So, WSJ's Jenkins, which is it? The Communist Chinese are actually near "Zero Coivd" or the Communist Chinese are lying?

Both and other opinions have appeared on these sorts of threads.

Trust the data? Trust the site(s)? Trust Communist China?

How about "trust the national triumph?"

If one trusts this, then it is all the GREATER condemnation of the Fauci-led, NIH-managed, CDC-reported and FDA-supported "response" to the pandemic, given the US morality rate based on the above numbers/assertions is orders of magnitude WORSE than the "national triumph? of the Communist Chinese.

Pick one.

China doesn’t have such a high percentage of unhealthy people as the USA.

No. But they're old though. 5x the population of the USA. Their medical system is not as well-equipped and staffed like ours.
