Florida GOP election police bill clears committee

Florida Republicans have advanced a voting law package that would establish a police unit for election crimes, embracing a proposal pushed by Gov.

Ron DeSantis. A Senate committee approved the bill Tuesday after hours of debate. Democrats questioned the need for an election police force, saying the bill makes it harder to vote by mail. Sen. Travis Hutson, a Republican sponsoring the bill, said it was meant to safeguard elections.

The bill would create an Office of Election Crimes and Security to investigate election fraud and let the governor appoint special law agents to pursue cases, a proposal DeSantis tied to unspecified instances of voter fraud.

This will be used against us next time there’s a Democrat governor and legislature.

There won’t be a Dem Gov or Legislature here anytime soon. Florida gets redder and redder by the day...

The reason there has been no statewide police of elections is the Democrats have lobbied very hard for their ability to cheat, especially in urban centers.

The "Voter protection Act", an Orwellian named bill, if ever there was one, has been used, nationally, to impower leftists (progressives) and keep Conservatives down for decades.

“This will be used against us next time there’s a Democrat governor and legislature.”

No doubt.

On the other hand:

No one is currently prosecuting the perpetrators of vote fraud. Most states just ignore the fraud or understaff their investigative agencies.

Democrats cheat far more than Republicans. I expect this law will impact them more than us.

“This will be used against us next time there’s a Democrat governor and legislature.”

One of those “It seemed like a good idea at the time” things. What they’re not thinking about is how Reps would be loathe to use it, but Dems will have a heyday with it for political attacks, a la 1/6 hearings.

Better to create and enforce laws that “nip it the bud” at the source rather than enshrine yet another layer of state police bureaucracy the Dems can use against their enemies.

I think a large group of eyes watching everything would be a better idea. Make sure all polling places and boxes are covered by citizens that are concerned. If they cheat then we will at least have an idea what hey are trying to do.

Yes, that and having cams set up. Require if a place has a member of 1 party present/acting, other parties have to be informed and also allowed one of their own people be present.

If everybody had to get to a polling place in person to vote it would put a huge dent in cheating. As would paper-hard copy ballots - takes longer to count, but we don’t need everything to be instant. People with genuine reasons for not being able to be present could do the mail vote - as it was designed to be - valid reasons required for it.
