COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are continuing to decline across the United States. As of February 2, 2022, cases are down 53.1% from their peak on January 15.
Reported Cases: As of February 2, 2022, the current 7-day moving average of daily new cases (378,015) decreased 37.6% compared with the previous (605,735).
Variants: Omicron predicted to be 99.9%, and Delta to be 0.1%... the proportion of BA.2 (sub-variant of Omicron) in the United States is less than 1%; however, the proportion of BA.2 has been steadily increasing.
New Hospital Admissions: The current 7-day daily average for January 26–February 1, 2022, was 16,068. This is an 18.0% decrease from the prior.
Deaths: The current 7-day moving average of new deaths (2,404) has increased 1.6% compared with the previous.
Test Positivity Rate: 18.7%, Down 5.75% from the previous week.
Vaccination: 75.5% of the U.S. population has received at least one dose - up +0.4% from last week (64.0% fully vaccinated - up +0.4% from last week). 87.1% of Adults have received at least one dose (74.2% fully vaccinated).

After that, we will see if our Omicron wave continues a steep decline further (as some have, like South Africa), or if the rate of decline moderates into a longer tail (like the UK has).
Maine is the only State not yet reporting a decline in new cases. It's curve is quite distinct from the average, for whatever reason (perhaps data collection or reporting method).
New Hospital admissions at the National level also accelerated their decline this last week, but Deaths have hovered with little change for the second week.
The CDC reports that the decline in new COVID cases and new hospitalizations accelerated further this last week. Deaths hover with little change for the second week.
The peak in new cases occurred around two weeks ago. We should see a reduction in deaths shortly.
You were right that it was too early to call a peak in deaths a few days back - it has inched up a bit since then.
Clearly, the fast increases have ended, and a huge drop in new cases has been working through the pipeline.
