Our press is trying to gin up a war, just as in 1898...”Remember the Maine!”
Oh, I forgot to add: CW-II here would also have to be done like the Afghans ought. Our military would probably turn on us.
The complicate a take-over. They aid in the spirit of resistance.
Tell that to the Mujhadeen in Afghanistan against the Soviets.
Afghanistan in general has some geography to help them out. American cities do not. The Afhans also had plenty of RPGs and mortars. Americans do not.
Ukraine has plenty of military hardware. The fighting in the Donbas region 2014-2015 was pretty much peer to peer in that aspect. But that was somewhat of a proxy fight for the Russian faction. If they go all in it will get very messy.
It’s amazing how few know about it.
A Ford Pinto wagon sold at auction recently for $10,000. More than four times what it cost new.

“Small arms won’t amount to much against modern tanks and aircraft.”
You are correct and incorrect. Snipers though of no great strategic value in a battlefield are of great value. They instill fear in the enemy and also take out a lot of the enemy. A million hunting rifles in the hands of civilians will not change a battle. Those same weapons in the hands of civilians will wear down an enemy day after day as they die from the one bullet they never expected. The enemy lives in fear on or off the battlefield.
That was asymmetric warfare. The beat the US the same way. They also had a terrain advantage the Ukrainians don’t have.
The European article where that photo originated called it a “hunting rifle”.
Had it been a US article it would have been an evil, high capacity automatic assault rifle.
