RNC approves censure vote of Reps. Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger

On Friday, the Republican National Committee overwhelmingly voted to formally censure GOP Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois for their involvement with the House select panel investigating January 6.

The vote took place at the RNC's annual winter meeting taking place this year in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The resolution cleared an RNC committee vote Thursday. RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel reportedly worked with Trump ally David Bossie to draw up the resolution.

"We’ve had two members engage in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens who engaged in legitimate political discourse. This has gone beyond their original intent. They are not sticking up for hard-working Republicans," McDaniel said of the effort.

The censure vote is the strongest and most public effort thus far to punish the two House members. It is a lighter sentence, however, than the idea that was floated to expel both members from the House GOP Conference.

Some Republican lawmakers, including Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana have questioned the wisdom of censuring Cheney and Kinzinger.

Also during the party meetings this week, leaders of the Wyoming GOP party quietly signed a special letter that will allow the national party to fund Cheney's challenger, Harriet Hageman.

A censure is worthless. Much like the GOP.

Weak tea. Ronna prob needs the votes of these two scoundrels to help Pelosi pass the Biden budget in a few days, so a slap on the wrist is all the courage the GOPe can muster.

The RNC can’t expel anyone.

The House GOP Conference has to do it:

“Expulsion.—A ⅔ vote of the entire membership shall be necessary to expel a Member of the Conference. Proceedings for expulsion shall follow the rules of the House of Representatives, as nearly as practicable.”

“No half measures.”

We always need to make sure we precisely follow the rules—while the left slam dunks us....

So we should be like the left? The rules are there for a reason.

If that’s the lesson that people on “the right” are getting then we are truly lost.

When a politician is going to do nothing, they must appear to be doing something. A censure is an ideal empty gesture.

This is especially true when lacking the votes to do something. Way more than 1/3rd RINOs in the House. (just like it will be in the next congress).

Politics is about power.

Those who follow rules lose it.

Those who ignore the rules and seize power win.

The rules are our enemy.

We are discussing tactics. Tactics are not right or left.

Tactics are about winning and losing.

The left is using winning tactics.

We are using losing tactics.

The ONLY way to see that happen is to not send the RNC one single dime.

That is what I am saying.

The GOP should “cancel” them.

That is how you start winning.
