Billboard ^ | 1-3-2020 | Colin Stutz

Warning: Billboard Paywall. Here is what the article says:

"The artists are each giving up more than 10% of their annual revenue to take a stand against COVID-19 misinformation, Billboard estimates.....

Neil Young and Joni Mitchell‘s decisions to pull their music from Spotify this week come at a real cost — hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for each of them that’s unlikely to be made up elsewhere".

Two true crazies of the 70's scene. Neil Young, Canadian junkie one note no talent screamer, "rescued" by Crosby Stills and Nash (Crosby and Stills the only real USA citizens- Still's actual name is Garcia- a Cuban/American). Joni Mitchell a Canadian named Joni Anderson who married Chuck Mitchell in Miami (meeting at the olde folkie joint, The Flick in Coconut Grove).

Joni is an artist/painter, great word pictures and later attempted to be a "jazz artist". Went nuts with her "skin condition" (no doubt years of drugs related) that she had enough dough to get Congressional Funding for the NIH to study...as a "syndrome" for "fibers coming out of her skin". Named "Morgellon's" -- the fibers analyzed after ridiculous amount of silly paid research-- were found to be "cotton stuck to scabs from sores from scratching the skin", samples of under the nails of other complainants.

So-- these were sores from self scratching the "cocaine bugs" of lifelong drug users, which picked up cotton fibers from shirts worn over the arms. It was a HELL of a lot of federal dollars going to discover what any competent internist, addiction specialist could have identified (and apparently did ID, to the dissatisfaction of the looney patient aka artist Nazi with artistic clout).

From the days when the music industry printed money with baby boomer's daddy's and mommy's cash, buying albums for one song at a store. Mega bucks.

The irrelevant virtue-signaling has-beens probably figure they make up that 10% by gaining listeners who otherwise would have only a vague idea who there are.

Maybe Spotify could not let them back, as a disincentive to such movements in the future.

That is an analysis that should have taken a competent lab no more than a couple of days/weeks to discover, which could have put the entire scare to rest long long ago.

Neil Young’s estimated net worth is $65 million.

He doesn’t care about Spotify income.

They’re old so probably won’t notice the loss in revenue. But I wonder how their heirs feel about the old hippies pissing away the fortunes.

What do you want to bet that Neil and Joni have never listened to even a minute of Joe Rogan’s show?

It’s much more likely they just heard somewhere that Rogan’s show allowed people to express opinions at odds with Democrat Party doctrine, and that was enough.

I do t know much about Neil Young. But Joni Mitchell is a phenomenal singer. Unfortunately, Joni Mitchell is now a phenomenal singer with fascist tendencies.

And yes, Joni. An attempt at censorship is fascist behavior. Better if you had said, “I don’t like Joe Rogan, and won’t listen to him. And here are my reasons. But it’s really up to you.”

The counter case is that they will have annoyed some sizeable fraction of the 50% of Americans who are against this nonsense, and now will not listen to their music. It is one thing to listen to an old has been to reminisce about what life was like in one's younger years. It is another to patronize some one who is actively undermining your present world.

I know that— and that is my point, for a really looney clown, with an exploding “green” car. Looks like the walking homeless at the McDonalds old guys on bikes. Still banging Darryl Hannah, so he’s got that over the rest of the street homeless.

The first question that comes to my mind regarding royalties lost, is how much is this loss is being taken by them and how much is being taken by the people who own the rights to their music?

Well, there is a chance that not only is this virtue signaling, it may also be patently fraudulent. Not in a criminal way but Young is nothing but a puppet , it may appear.

On a side note, who or what would ever give the guy close to $1billion for that noise?

I have never purchased their music and never will. I will avoid any videos of them on any platform. I hope others do the same. That will be their real cost. They have now joined the ranks of Hanoi Jane.

Let’s hope that’s the case. Living in their worldview bubble, that possibility might not have even occurred to them.

And don’t ignore the people really behind this— their CO-owners of publishing, which these artists own royalties with, and who are no doubt even worse lefties. Writers royalties, publishers royalties and .... with Congress’s help Broadcasting payments per song paid through BMI or ASCAP royalty collecting firm filled with useless tit “executives” with even less talent in most cases. Nashville experience with personal friends in the business.

Undoubtedly. When was the last time Joni Mitchell was in the news? Few under 40 and none under 30 had a clue as to who she was before this.

Bob Nolan was spinning in his grave from the horror of Joni Mitchell’s butchering rewrite of Cool Water.

Do they even own their own catalogues anymore or are they just fronts for those that do OWN DEM?

Neil Young has sold 50 percent of the worldwide copyright and income interests...

I wonder if they despise their fellow Canadian Trucker’s movement?

Maybe they should make new songs for the CCP since they HATE FREEDOM so much:-)
