I applaud Rand Paul for his plan but why signal to Fauci what you plan a year in advance? Plenty of time to destroy evidence. Paper shredding and erasing of electronic communications will be underway immediately as well as quiet visits with clear instructions to those who might give unfavorable testimony.
Any investigation of Fauci by a GOP Senate will only go as far as McConnell wants it to go, no matter Paul’s intentions. What US Senate investigation when Mitch ran the Senate ever accomplished anything with real consequences?
Mitch is the protector of the status quo and the establishment. He will let Rand Paul hold hearings. There will be noise about good intentions, mistakes made, and perhaps unintentional lapses of procedure but no heads will roll and no smoking gun will be uncovered. With Merrick Garland as Attorney General there will be no prosecutions. It will be a charade for the consumption of the GOP voter base. The federal health care bureaucracy will continue to go about its mission with no fear of real transparency being imposed.
