WASHINGTON, D.C. — The setup was like a typical congressional hearing. There were members of Congress, witnesses, cameras, and members of the press, including yours truly. But what was atypical about the hearing was the location.
Members of the House Freedom Caucus, led by Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA), were having the ad-hoc hearing at FreedomWorks, a conservative grassroots advocacy group, because Democrats have been preventing them from holding hearings about the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. Democrats are the current majority and can dictate if such hearings take place, according to the congressional members.
"We've repeatedly requested that congressional committees hold hearings to investigate the state of the border crisis and the policies that created that crisis but we are sitting here off campus because Democrat chairs have no interest in this! Neither does the Biden administration nor will they even give us access to rooms and facilities to hold these types of hearings," Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) said in his opening remarks.
The over two-hour hearing covered several issues that have been exacerbated at the southern border and within the United States. When it came to a recent video that leaked showing the transportation of immigrants who were being transported by air into the U.S. in the dead of night, Joseph Edlow, former acting director for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said he does not know what authority the Biden administration is using to justify taking single adult males away from the border and dropping them off further into the country.
"Those are the ones where I'm really not sure what the authority is to release these individuals to outside the border in the first place," Edlow said, adding that he is assuming the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is placing the adult men away from the border because they are illegally crossing in areas where the Migrant Protection Protocols are not in place.
"Why are they not Title 42? I have no idea why these individuals are not appropriate for Title 42...What is the authority then to release these individuals away from the border? There is none. There's no parole authority that exists under law that I'm aware of that would allow DHS summarily release these individuals and put on these flights," he explained.
President of the National Border Patrol Council Brandon Judd testified that Border Patrol agents have been bogged down with processing family units and children who willingly give themselves up. Since Title 42 largely does not apply to them, agents are unable to catch the drug smugglers who are bringing in hardcore drugs like fentanyl.
"We have allowed the criminal cartels to create billions of dollars in revenue at the expense of U.S. citizens who [died] at a record rate in 2021," Judd said.
"American citizens are dead because of policies that are failing to stop the flow of fentanyl into the United States, true or false?" Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) asked.
"That is absolutely correct," Judd replied.
Russell Johnson, a New Mexico cattle rancher and former Border Patrol agent, testified the border wall system that was built under former President Donald Trump was a welcomed addition to his ranch, but because the wall construction was stopped by President Biden there is now a gap along his ranch, which has led to more illegal traffic being funneled through his property.
Todd Bensman, a fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, explained on a recent trip to Mexico's southern border he discovered the United Nations have been provided money cards to the migrants so they have resources to continue their journey to the U.S.-Mexico border.
"I found my first clue on a Rio Grande riverbank on the Mexican side: a discarded [United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees]-stamped booklet advising in great detail how migrants can and should travel north with the greatest chance of safety and success. Later, in Reynosa, Mexico, I witnessed the United Nations grantee, the IOM, hand out cash debit cards to migrants in long, snaking lines. The workers handing them out said they give $400 every 15 days to families of four, renewable every two weeks," Bensman said.
Perfect example of why one should never vote for a Democrat.

During the Clinton administration when the Democrats lost the House for the first time in about four decades, they held many of these supposed hearings. C-SPAN used to show them and people thought they were real congressional hearings. I wonder if C-SPAN showed these meetings.

Years ago, when the rats were in the minority, they couldn’t get an official congressional hearing on a matter they wanted. So, they asked the pubs if they could have used one of the empty rooms downstairs. “Sure, why not?” said the leadership of the Stupid Party.
They made it up like a hearing, lights, microphones, cameras and friendly witness, and of course the MSM covered like it was a big deal.
“That’s the last time we let them to that” the pub leaders said.

I ate at the first and last Sambo’s restaurant when I lived in Santa Barbara.
Many people don’t realize this but the name was a partial combo of the last names of the owners. In addition, they very clearly were upholding the Sambo story as one from INDIA, because he dealt with TIGERs which don’t hang out much in Africa.
They were hounded by Kareen Dogooders, not blacks — “blacks did not object to the name, citing studies that showed that “three times as many blacks ate at Sambo’s as at any other full service restaurant”.[6]”

There was a Sambo’s on Independence Blvd near the original Charlotte Coliseum. Good food. I don’t think I ever ate there before the bars closed. But, after the bars closed...? ;-)
Yes, the commies held the House from 1955 until 1995 when Newt Gingrich took over after creating the Contract with America. Newt was a visionary. Too bad he was also having an affair (with his now third wife) and so did not seem to want to speak out much against Clinton.
Of course the Dems went after Newt with completely spurious attacks just as they did against Trump. When someone has to spend many hours defending himself against legal attacks, it decreases their ability to be as effective as they might have been. The Dems in DC are just plain evil.
During those 40 years of Dem House control, Republicans controlled the Senate for only six. Republican senators like being in the minority. They get invited to all the right parties. They get all the perks for themselves and their families and they’re not responsible for anything. They say to their voters… We tried but just couldn’t do anything. Sounds just like today.

My late father knew the founders of Sambo’s.
The name of the restaurant chain was derived from the first name of one of the founders....Sam Battistone Sr., and the first two letters of the surname of the other founder, Newell Bohnett. Mr. Bohnett’s father was once the mayor of Santa Barbara.
The first restaurant opened in Santa Barbara in 1957.
By 1979, there were 1,117 restaurants in 47 states.
On top of their signs, there was an Indian (India) kid with an Aladdin’s lamp. He was wearing a turban.
Racially fragile blacks around the country were offended, thinking the restaurant was named after Little Black Sambo, which it was not.
The chain eventually had problems with the way it was structured and filed for bankruptcy in 1981.

Are the Russians invading the Ukraine or the United States? Currently, it seems like a lot more of them have been crossing our border.
Maybe we could take a break from pondering where Russians will invade the Ukraine and ask why our government is failing to secure our border against the Russians and the entire world.
The migrants making their way to the border included more than 2,000 Russians and 300 Ukrainians. Most arrived or were discovered at a legal port of entry in San Diego, California, according to the data.
In mid-December, 18 Russian migrants were discovered in two vehicles that collided after a Border officer fired his gun to stop them from speeding through an inspection station at the San Diego port of entry, according to a release from Customs and Border Protection.
The current data seems to suggest we’ve had 13,420 Russians show up in 2021. That’s a marked increase which seems to have been concentrated around the summer and fall.
But it’s not just the Russians.
More than 800 people from India also illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border into Yuma, Arizona, in December.
For the second month in a row, more than 500 migrants from Turkey crossed into El Paso, Texas.
Nearly 5,000 Turks total. The latter could be a serious terror risk. Despite its NATO membership, Turkey is a state sponsor of Islamic terrorism.
Also over 23,000 Chinese, 5,100 Romanians, and a mass migration of others from around the world who don’t share a border or even a continent with us.
This is an invasion. And we have yet to defend ourselves.
