Even a minor stroke can lay someone up for months, but it depends on the individual.

My girlfriend’s dad had what was called a minor stroke and was never the same again.

It affected his ability to walk most of all early on, and he went steadily downhill physically and mentally for six years until he passed three months ago.

True.

I wish him no harm.

Not in the Senate but when US Rep. John Dingell (longest term in the House, 59 years) was in his last years (died at age 92) he used to have assistance in getting to his seat in the House by wheelchair. When someone informed him there was a vote, although his head had been down toward his chest all along, he nodded and then indicated to an aide how he wanted to vote and they voted on his behalf.

I saw him from a few feet away in person when he spoke at my university library where I worked. He seemed in fragile shape but made a few prepared speech comments and said a few words to us. But he was old.
