now i read this years ago, and i think the story line is a little much for “children”, more so because it’s true
so i found it again, judge for yourself as to why you think it’s appropriate or not

I think it would be appropriate for middle school age children, possibly 4th or 5th graders. But it’s not just about what I think. “I don’t want my children reading this book” is not the same as “I don’t want ANYONE’s children reading this book.” Every parent has said the first statement at least once. The second statement advocates censorship, denies other parents the right to make decisions for their own children, and delegates parental responsibility to the state. When I was growing up my parents always looked at what I checked out from the school or public library.
