LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan businessman, military veteran and two-time Republican Senate candidate John James announced Monday he will run for an open House seat in the Detroit area.
The 10th District, newly created through redistricting, includes a chunk of Macomb County and a small portion of Oakland County and is considered competitive. Then-President Donald Trump narrowly won the area of the state in 2020 over Joe Biden.
“Our community needs a congressman who is grounded in real life — a leader who will defend our freedom, ensure good-paying jobs are available at home and offer to extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need," James said in a statement.
Democratic Reps. Andy Levin and Haley Stevens currently represent parts of the seat, but they are seeking to represent a new, Democratic district in Oakland County.
The 40-year-old James, a top GOP recruit, was twice the Republican nominee to challenge incumbent Democratic senators, losing by about 1.7 percentage points to Gary Peters in 2020.
The West Point graduate flew Apache helicopters in combat and led two platoons during the Iraq War. After being honorably discharged, he joined his father’s Detroit-based group of companies, James Group International Inc. He is CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics, which ships supplier parts to auto factories.

Good for him. Same salary.
Hope he wins, he’ll make a great representative.
I see this gentleman as being a force for positive change in the GOP.
So naturally, he should keep his head on a swivel.
The Michigan DemoKKKrats are racist scum.
You have my vote John. 👍
He’s absolutely extraordinary. I agree with the others about the theft of the second election. The first I’m not sure one way or the other. He’s got to make it this time or I think he becomes a permanent also ran. Beto’s in the same place
Aimed too high before. Darrell Issa did the same thing. He’s a decent enough congressman.
Maybe.
I believe he best represents me, as opposed to Peters.
Yes it is very likely his seat was stolen. I gave to him in 2020 and I will again.
But he folded like a cheap shirt and left his supporters hanging. I don’t think he has the right motives.
Spineless Coward - I want my contribution back for your half ass attempt at a Senate run.
You refused to do a recount and went and hid - I would vote for a squad member before I voted for you.
Better to have him in the House than not at all. He’ll be well positioned for a future Senate run then.
He’d be a great choice.
That's...kind of crazy.
He’s been running again and again. It’s like he’s begging to get into the Swamp. He’s been running so long, he hits the 10 yr threshold of politics that makes him a Swamp creature.
I’m generally okay with candidates we hate who hold a seat that could not be held otherwise. Susan Collins being the absolute most prominent of this category. No other Republican in Maine could hold that seat. In contrast with Romney, who holds a seat ANY Republican could hold.
But if this House seat is competitive, rather than leaning blue, why can’t we have a MAGA candidate?
Again I will donate to John; he deserves all the GOP help he can get. He’s a good man, a good husband and father, and a good Conservative Republican. I think he was robbed in his Senate bid in Michigan by the same means as was Trump robbed there.
WE ALL need to do EVERYTHING possible to get this absolutely wonderful man across the finish line AND THEN get him into the senate AND get Graham the hell out!!!
He might be spineless but you are not thinking clearly! You ACTUALLY THINK a SQUAD MEMBER WOULD BE BETTER THAN HIM??? GOOD FREAKING GRIEF....get a hold on your self!
2020 was close, but is absurd to suggest 2018 was stolen. He lost 52.3% to 45.8%.
Third time is a charm.
He gives great hugs and I have pics with him to prove it.
