Let me tell you a story.
In May 1968, France's college students decided that Charles De Gaulle's Fifth Republic, then 10 years old, should be replaced by a Sixth Republic based on Mao's Cultural Revolution. The students took to the streets and set up barricades in the usual French way.
De Gaulle knew that the gendarmes could handle the students, but if France's trade unionists joined, his government could fall in a violent revolution. De Gaulle struck a deal with Franco in Spain to provide him shelter while the French military used every weapon in its arsenal to crush the rebellion.
Fortunately, the trade unionists farted in the general direction of the students, and the police had no trouble crushing the student rebellion.
Suppose Trudeau is playing the same card. If so, we can expect government violence against trucker "insurgents" with the Canadian news media shutting off news about it while Trudeau supervises from Camp David.
