There's a New Omicron Subvariant. Denmark Explains Its Experience with the Mutation So Far.

Nearly 100 cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2 have been identified in the United States, which is now present in nearly 50 countries around the world. As scientists continue to study whether it causes more or less severe illness than Omicron BA.1, officials in Denmark, where the subvariant is dominant, are weighing in.

"There is no evidence that the BA.2 variant causes more disease, but it must be more contagious," Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said during a news conference on Wednesday.

Preliminary calculations suggest BA.2 could be 1.5 times more infectious than BA.1, Denmark's top infectious disease authority, Statens Serum Institut (SSI), said in a note on Wednesday.

However, an initial analysis by the institute showed no difference in the risk of hospitalisation for BA.2 compared to BA.1. (Reuters)

"There is some indication that it is more contagious, especially for the unvaccinated, but that it can also infect people who have been vaccinated to a greater extent," said SSI's technical director, Tyra Grove Krause, according to Reuters.

LOL - their narrative gets more desperate and pathetic with each “new variant.”

Exactly, from the article: “ Has been identified “, by who? NOBODY trusts the CDC or WHO or any other “medical expert”. Their game is coming to a swift end, they have all lost ALL credibility and trust. Time for the “ Nuremberg Trials II” to begin. Begin from the bottom up- doctors who would not prescribe HCL, Ivermectin, hospital groups, health care providers, doctors associations, NGO’s, government departments then finish it all off with Biden himself.
We can not allow a “ sacrificial “ lamb ( Fauci) to take the fall, EVERYONE who participated, aided and abetted must be punished.

Calculations based on 100 cases in comparisonto exponentiallymore cases from orher variants??? Who buys that. Lying with statistics.. easy, peazy lemon squeezy.

I don’t buy the notion the next variant will necessarily be “more contagious”. Granted it’s a bit in the definition and timing.

As Omicron rapidly sweeps through the population, immunity, or, more properly, perhaps, resistance to it (all sources taken together) in the population has built and will continue to build. We can argue about how long it will hold up, but it seems likely another variant, perhaps Son-of-Omicron here, will pop up with immunity evading capacity and become the dominant strain / variant before Omicron resistance fades. The new variant does not have to beat Omicron’s infectivity during most of the Omicron wave, to become dominant in a wave of its own. It only has to beat Omicron’s lower effective infectiousness @ the end of Omicron’s run. The “Son” could end up spreading in its own wave only 1/4 as fast as Omicron did during the Omicron wave, and dominate.

Even 1/4 the rate of spread would be great success (for the virus).
