Rooftop Revelations: Equity initiatives widen the racial achievement gap even more

Vigorous education will close the gap, Pastor Corey Brooks says

CHICAGO – On the 67th day of his 100-day rooftop vigil to build a community center, Pastor Corey Brooks discusses the controversy of the education achievement gap between white and black students and how to address it.

What follows has been lightly edited. We strongly encourage you to watch the accompanying video so you may hear the pastor in his own words.

One of the biggest debates in America is how to close the achievement gap between white and black students.

Personally, I care far more about educating the child than what color he or she is. That's because a poor black child and a poor white child have far more in common than a poor black child and a rich black child.

But let's put that aside. I will address this black and white achievement gap because it needs to be addressed. Lately, I've seen some of the most insane ideas come from the left on how to close the gap.

Up north, just above Chicago, there's a town called Evanston. In their school district, called District 65, only 30.6% of black students met the college readiness benchmark in reading, as opposed to 83.7% for white students. In math, the gap was even wider. (This was 2017-18.)

Horrible numbers, but what was even more horrible were the proposed solutions.

The district held segregated staff meetings. They spent $100,000 on a report that produced no direct cause for the racial gap. Instead, they blamed the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, Illinois sundown towns and the forced sterilization of Puerto Rican women.

Okay. That's part of our history, but exactly how does this historical example explain the current problems? They don't.

it all begins at home -

- children raised in dysfunctional homes produce dysfunctional adults - some escape the curse, but only a few - and that’s a fact!!!

Blacks, who rely on government for education, health-care, welfare, are getting a degraded version of everything

Unsolvable issue: it’s in genetics. But we can’t say it

Education is great, but if the father is continually driven out of the home by the desire for a fatter welfare check by a mother who wants a fatter welfare check, “equity” simply isn’t going to happen. Young boys get old enough and strong enough to talk back to their momma with no one to set them straight. You can thank LBJ and the democrats for this situation, 100%.

The above are all part of the problem.

Another part is the Blacks who bully those Black students who want to learn something for "acting white".

I have never seen a textbook that was printed for only a white person of any age.

ALL textbooks are printed EXACTLY the same.
Chairs/desks are the same.
Pencils/pens are the same
Notebooks are the same
Paper is the same
ETC ETC ETC
Lights in room the same
Heat the same

The difference is the attitude of the parents & subsequently the child itself for not succeeding.

The blind leading the blind... maybe is we insisted on improvement of school in black urban districts it would help narrow the divide in achievement?

Maybe if we promoted marriage among the black community, that would also help? Fathers are necessary to raise well balanced children - both boys and girls. Also, two parents help in promoting scholarship in their children, and in respect for laws.
