Iirc, it was 2014 when I read of ‘ scientists ( NHIH iirc) went to Alaska to dig up the Spanish flu ( 1918 flu) using this reasoning .
To ‘ study’ , to create a vac for a virus yet unknown.
How can you create a vac for something before you know what that something is.
You can’t.
At that time I thought exactly what you stated.
Why dig up a contagion that was for all practical purposes eradicated , that only existed under feet of permafrost ?
The reason was the same reason fauci gave rand forgain of function resource, to create a virus to create a vac for a potential new virus not yet known.
To create a vaccine for a non existent virus.
It made no simple sence then or now.
