Guess I’m not going to Sydney or any place else in Australia anytime soon.
If you don’t go to Sydney because of crap being pulled by the Western Australian government, you’d be a bloody fool.
Western Australia is literally the other side of the country from Sydney. It has a completely different government.
The management of the pandemic in Australia is almost entirely in the control of state governments for constitutional reasons.
Americans can’t seem to grasp this simple fact - I don’t know why, it’s not as if the US doesn’t have states.
What happens in WA is utterly irrelevant to what happens in NSW and vice versa. They are two utterly different jurisdictions.
Some state governments in Australia have acted like absolute tyrants, and taken advantage of the fact that Australia’s constitution doesn’t allow the federal government to overrule the states on ‘public health’ matters.
But that isn’t most of the country and tagging Australia as a whole for this would be like judging all of America based on California.
