How to get free N95 masks from the government starting this week
The Chicago Sun-Times ^ | January 24, 2022 | By Satchel Price

The federal government is making 400 million N95 masks available for free starting this week at thousands of locations.

By early February, the aim is to have the program fully operational, giving Americans a chance to acquire the higher-quality masks at no cost.

Here’s what Chicagoans need to know about the rollout of free N95 masks:

Why do I need N95 masks?

Respirators — including N95 masks, KN95s and KN94s — are designed to achieve a close facial fit and efficient filtration of airborne particles.

When will the masks be available?

Some locations will begin making the masks available this week, while the White House plans to have the program fully operational across the nation by early February.

Where will these free masks be available?

Pharmacies in Chicago and the suburbs have partnered with the federal government to distribute the masks. These include Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and Costco stores, though some locations might not get any.

How many can I get?

Each person will be able to pick up three N95 masks, according to the White House. It’s unclear whether this means someone could pick up three masks at one store location, then head to another and pick up three more.

What if I want masks for my children?

For this rollout, only N95 masks designed for adults will be available. The White House says it plans to have “additional, high-quality masks for children available in the near future.”

When will the next 400 million masks be given out? Those things must be replaced periodically.

I have a beard, they won’t work any better than the cloth or paper masks.

Three? If you follow the directions that’s about an hour and 20 minutes worth right?

Big deal. I was told everything from the government is free.

I believe every word they tell me. The last elections were the most carefully monitored with votes the most honestly counted in history. Welfare is a short term bridge from a temporary hard time to a better life of a new job and independence.

Wait. Those young men are coming to give me those mind drugs again. I don’t need them. I’m perfectly sane.

Only if you don’t touch them, while wearing.

Interestingly, I tried to order some decongestants that were in stock, from Walgreens last week, to be picked up.

I was told that no one could fill the order, then I tried to cancel the order and had to wait on hold for 15 minutes.

So, I somehow don’t think Walgreens is going to have the extra staff to run this program for Joe, anytime soon. JMHO

In WA state, they started mailing health care facilities, cloth masks, supplies etc back when it began. I figure this is how the laundry money to the politicians, by “paying” Chinese companies inflated prices and getting a kickback.

If the N95 mask has the little valve- it is ineffective against airborne droplets. I don’t know which ones the government is handing out. Regardless- they’re made in Chyna.

I called a CVS near my house to check on a prescription, and after 20 minutes on hold (I was doing other things and had the on-hold music going in the background) I drove to the store and went to the counter with the hold music still playing...a total of about 35 minutes and they never picked up.

Never got an apology at the counter either...just a surly “we’re busy”. On-hold times of this nature have become commonplace at this CVS.
