It seems to be a war for Independence from a tyranny that has govt and White Coats denying people life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That was 1775/1776ish..
Not 1860s..
You and the left are the same, you both hate the US
They live in myth. The real Confederacy was the world’s 1st Socalist state.
Read DiLorenzo and get back to me.
Read freeper LS’s book our Look Away and get back to me.
I doubt that you could recognize the truth if it bit you in the behind.
Clownhall has always hated America.
The way I see it the RATS are the government promoting their evil upon us and those that protest are the rebels. God bless those that speak out against tyranny. Mr. Root can be a little wacky.
I’ve read a lot of (real) history and the Civil War was not all about slavery.. unlike you were taught and apparently read about, in fact very little about slavery. It was about self determination and the Civil War was started over the South’s secession from the Union and economic issues, not slavery. Lincoln needed to keep the Union together.
The North wasn’t interested enough in secession and the economics issues to fight so they brought slavery into it which was on it’s way out eventually anyway in the South.
Ending slavery was the result of the war ending but not the cause of starting it.
Its the FReeper/Conservative way. There is no sense of unity as the alpha dogs assert their dominance. The cultural war we are now in will be lost because of this, and doing no more than angry blogging.
Ok maddog55. You keep thinking along those lines. Slavery was the number one issue in CWI. It was the the most evil process brought to this country by the Brits. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation stated outright why his reason for the war was 2 fold. Preserve the union and ending the evil brought upon this country.
Bush League Republicans are Assistant Democrats.
We cannot win with them in our ranks constantly sabotaging us.
Abraham Lincoln’s Letter to Horace Greeley:
The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be “the Union as it was.” If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.
I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men every where could be free. Yours, A. Lincoln.
I have to laugh at the “historians” that think the EP freed the slaves in only those states that were in rebellion. By September 1862 most of Tennessee was within the territory of the US and therefore many slaves in Tennessee were not legally freed until the Amendment to the Constitution. Just a little parsing here...
“Democrats were the old Confederates, too’’.
Yup. And quite a few of them are on this site masquerading as conservatives.
You want proof?
Check out the Civil War threads here.
LOL! You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about do you? Guess what, in a war of national survival all governments are going to seize/nationalize resources, draft people, etc. That doesn't make them socialist.
