Rep. Madison Cawthorn polished his pistol for several minutes during a House Veterans' Affairs Committee virtual hearing on Wednesday, according to the Daily Beast.
While veterans and lawmakers discussed how toxic chemicals are killing US soldiers, the Daily Beast reported that the 26-year-old Republican was busy cleaning his gun on the Zoom call.
His polishing became visible to attendees during the testimony of an Afghanistan veteran, two people familiar with the hearing told the Daily Beast.
According to former 9/11 first responder John Feal, several attendees were furious with Cawthorn.

” according to the Daily Beast.”
there’s your source. a far left fake news outlet..
At least it was his gun he was polishing and not his Toobin.
“on the Zoom call”
People have done a lot worse on Zoom calls, unless I am missing a double entendre. He should do what many of us do all the time on Zoom calls; fake engagement and just get through it.
Look at the article and there’s a Tweet with a picture of him working on his pistol. Plus his spokesperson isn’t denying it. The source for the story may explain why it came out in the first place but it doesn’t automatically mean it’s fake.
Maybe he was making a point.
If the left is allowed their congressional eccentrics I don’t know why we can’t have ours.
Lol
Always carry a weapon...concealed or other, it does not matter.
So, what exactly is the controversy? What wimps!
That we know.
What you wrote is what I was thinking when I read the headline. You posted first. Thanks.
Ya, that’s what we called it when I was in Army too.
Yep...I think he WAS making a point.
“I guess doing his job is too much like work.”
Exactly. It’s so disrespectful. He’s an ass
Well it was an official meeting of the House Veteran's Affairs committee. The subject was toxic chemicals in Afghanistan and their continuing effect on servicemen and veterans, which sound like a serious topic to me. And Cawthorn was apparently so bored by the discussion that he zoned out and did something else. Isn't participating part of the job he was elected to do?
I think he was. Veterans Affairs just bores the crap out of him.
What better multitasking thing to do while listening to testimony, etc.?
So he was multitasking. So what? I often listen to podcasts while cooking or walking. I haven’t burned a dinner or been run over yet. So how many other congresscritters were on their laptops, checking e-mail, or playing games at this same hearing?
Personally I would have preferred to see him grinding out an 80% lower or reloading ammo while on the call, but to each their own.
Why should theymdenymthat he was cleaning a legally, owned gun, at his own home (I assume that was where he was? But even if he wasn’t, he’s still legally allowed to do it despite the left getting the vapors and fainting over it. Guns don’t kill people. There was nothingmto, nothing to, afraid of, nor was anything done illegally
He was setting a good example. For gun owners, regular maintenance is important. He was multi-tasking, and doing something useful and important while listening to a hearing that was likely useless anyway.
