One year and a day??????????????

By sentencing him to a year and a day, the defendant is eligible for good time credit which will reduce his sentence to less than one year. Had he been sentenced to a year, flat, then he would have served the entire time in custody. It seems like stealing the identity of a disabled vet and stealing from social security are of little consequence these days.
