Michigan governor releases plan draft for carbon neutrality

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan will build clean energy infrastructure and invest in green programs over the next 30 years with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 to confront climate change, a draft of a state plan says.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer committed Michigan to the 2050 goal in 2020 and formed the Council on Climate Solutions in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

A large portion of Michigan’s greenhouse gas emissions come from electrical power and transportation, the draft notes.

To reach the 2050 goal of carbon neutrality, the plan would have the state convert to 100% clean, renewable energy. It would aim to switch to 50% clean, renewable energy by 2030.

The plan would phase out coal-fired power by 2035, though some large utilities such as DTE Energy and Consumers Energy have already said they plan to shut down coal-fired plants years sooner.

To cut transportation emissions, the plan calls for the construction of infrastructure that could accommodate 2 million electric vehicles on roads by 2030.

The first week that Michigan gets an Arctic Express that plunges daytime temperatures to below zero will be entertaining...

50 years?

Basically the guv is saying, "Don't judge me today on what I'm doing right now. Wait 50 years from now and you'll see. It'll work!"

What a bunch of crap! My home solar system produces half of the power my wife and I consume in our all-electric home. And we didn't do it to become "carbon neutral" or "save the earth" or any of that flying unicorn hopey dreamy stuff to protect us from the invisible dragon of "runaway global warming" and such. The main reason I did it was to protect my wealth from being eat up by during retirement from energy prices with sky high inflation rates like we're experiencing now and like the Dims promise to inflict onto us with policies like this.

"Green" energy forced onto us like the Dims do is inefficient in every way except its freedom killing property. But doing it in a decentralized fashion (each person doing solar panels if it works for their situation and they're willing to pay for it, while being the ones to reap the benefits) is often done efficiently to make sure it pays for itself.

There are 4 carbon neutral power sources: solar, wind, hydro and nuclear.

All 4 require 100% of the building cost upfront. While a natural gas plant is 20% upfront and 80% over time.

Borrowing all that money upfront means it will always cost from day one.

What kind of idiotic “science” are these twits following?

It’s a cult and you won’t get “carbon neutral” no matter how hard you try because we, as humans, EMIT CARBON!

No one can even define “carbon neutral”at this point.

It’s no wonder we haven’t gotten there.

If I ride my bike to work, pedal a machine that powers my phone and computer, then pedal back home where I pedal to provide electricity for my hydroponics even then I’m not “carbon neutral” because in still consuming more energy than I’m producing.

Much cheaper to go nuclear and carbon sequestrate by growing trees and fracking.

Let’s say it costs 25 cents a gallon to grow trees sufficient to remove that amount of CO2 emissions. Then, the market can decide whether green energy-produced electricity or gasoline should power cars.

Remember, Trump signed us up for the trillion tree initiative. This should have totally freed us from climate alarmism.

But we have lots and lots of windmills near Ithaca, MI to generate electricity to keep us warm.

Sometimes when I drive by I can see most of them spinning...

Psst. It's currently 2022. We only have to wait 28 years to see how well her plan worked.

good luck up there.

Carbon neutral is a joke. It means taxing the folks and giving the money to companies that claim to do wonderful things to protect the environment.

Told the boys in the U P the day it became its own state I would maybe move back. Or its own country for that matter.

Until then, they need to understand that putting up with this C@nt and her criminal punk crap is their own fault.

But same point. 28 years from now she won't be in office and won't care.

I'm more concerned with the Governor's plan to shut down the Mackinac Straits Pipeline 5 that delivers most of our oil and LPG.
