OB: You should not walk around and be worried (Sweden's Commander In Chief)
SVT Sweden ^ | 1/18/2022 | SVT Sweden

Sweden's Commander-in-Chief Micael Byden calls for calm after the recent escalated security policy situation in Europe. However. he warns of the situation if the West join Russia's list of demands. Then I will end up in a situation where I cannot solve my assignment, he says to SVT's Aktuellt on Tuesday.

It does not pay to be worried now. That's what Sweden's OB Micael Byden says.

I do not think that you should walk around and be worried, but we must be aware and understand how tough this situation is, he says.

However, he warns of what could happen if the United States and NATO accept Russia's demands. Russia has threatened "military-technical measures"-unless NATO withdraws from a number of Soviet republics and countries that were part of the Warsaw Pact. It was just before Christmas that the Kremlin presented its 'list of demands'.

-Should we end up in a situation where the Russian requirements are met, then I will end up in a situation where I can not solve my mission, where the opportunities are destroyed, the international collaborations that are a basic foundation for us to cope with security.

He was also asked about the Swedish mobilization on Gotland.

How long do you think reinforced resources are needed on Gotland?

I will not be able to answer that right now. We are on Gotland before, but we needed to strengthen some parts.

Is there a risk that Sweden will be drawn into war?

If something happens in our immediate area or around our neighboring countries or an EU member or Ukraine, Sweden will be affected-directly or indirectly.

He concludes:

-Now we have started this refurbishment and that is exactly where we are.

Sweden is probably safer from immigration under the Russian sphere of influence than the west’s.

Russia is demanding, among other things, that Sweden and Finland not be in NATO. Uh, if they want to join, yes. They are Western countries.

But Ukraine? Really? Why do we want to get into a pre-WWI style entrapment with that place? They have oil and wheat. Well, so do we...that is if the Brandon administration would let us use those resources. And Ukraine has never been part of any Western block.

Maybe the time for NATO has come and gone, and the Europeans should watch out for themselves. By themselves.

“… unless NATO withdraws from a number of Soviet republics and countries that were part of the Warsaw Pact.”

Which ones is he referring to? Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania,
Lithuania? All hell will break loose if the Rooskies try to move into any of those. The Warsaw Pact countries will reunite against Russia.

Looks to me like the Swedes need to invest in their own armed forces.

Just a thought.

You are absolutely correct about Ukraine. I would add that Taiwan is a very similar situation.

“Ukraine has never been part of any Western block.”

Independent from Communism only 20 years, Ukraine has long been seeking Western ties.

Ukraine has certainly suffered under two forms of Totalitarianism: nearly as bad as Poland had it!
