EVs were on track to happen with or without gov’t subsidies. Might have taken longer to overcome the chicken-and-egg problem of EVs vs chargers, and there was certainly a boost when Georgia made the Nissan Leaf practically free for 2 year lease. Pretty clear Musk was going to push the tech with or without gov’t help, and if legislators want to throw billions his way it would be stupid to not take it.

I have no problem with the technology. Allowed to develop without government mandates and I would be perfectly fine with it. In fact, from my experience with hybrids, if they made a hybrid F350 that would haul my fifth wheel, I would be first in line. But I live in California (for the current time) and in fifteen years, I won’t have a choice.
