Republicans need to ditch the notion that catching Democrats in scandals and hypocrisy is going to get them elected. Nor will “Brandon” and venting do the trick. Younkin’s election showed the power of well explained issues and hard hitting ads.
It should always be remembered that after the segregationist “Dixiecrat” schism from the Democrats imploded, ALL BUT ONE of the Dixiecrats (Strom Thurmond) returned to the Democrat party and remained their until their dying days.
This is a key point to note when Democrats suggest that when the South went Republican, it wasn’t because the Republicans were segregationist and racist, it was because the average person in the South *rejected* the Democrats who still supported segregation and racism.
