The National Weather Service issued a tsunami advisory Saturday morning for Alaska, Hawaii and the West Coast following the eruption of an (underwater volcano) near Tonga.
According to the weather service, “Tsunami advisories mean that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is expected or is already occurring. Areas in the advisory should not expect widespread inundation. Tsunamis are a series of waves dangerous many hours after initial arrival time. The first wave may not be the largest.”

No, it’s “set up your phone to take video.”
But if folks have to move away from the beach, who is gonna catch all the power lines as they fall near the beach?
Cowabunga!
Orange County has closed all beaches, harbors, and piers today.
For those currently sitting on Oceanside Beach, please get up and pull your beach chair six feet back. Then sit back down and get back to your book.
Looks like an open fire hydrant.
All damage will be blamed on Trump. Tonga and Trump both are five-letter words that begin with T.
That's a bit of safety overkill for a tidal wave of 2 feet. I wonder when they're going to force us all to wear safety helmets just to take a walk outside.
Surf’s up, dude! 🤙
We got the advisory five minutes ago, for the King County shoreline, which is on Puget Sound (Seattle area), not the ocean. I’d estimate I’m about 200 feet above sea level, about a mile from the shoreline.
When the bay suddenly empties, be sure and run out onto the exposed sand and rocks and look at the flopping fish with your back to the ocean.
Sounds like overkill; nothing about it right now on local Seattle TV, and they send people out into the countryside to report on an inch of snow.
“That’s a bit of a safety overkill for a tidal wave of 2 feet”.
Not really. That’s enough water to tumble and drown people. Don’t forget the regular waves are riding in on that flood.
Up here in the Northwest we have lots of bone or even automobile crushing logs moving around.
We’re expecting 3 footers.
I got the warning. I am about 60 feet elevation and a block from the water. Nothing seems to be happening here.
I read years ago that the scientists predicted that if a tsunami entered Puget Sound it would move so fast that it would not touch anything until it crashed at the end of the Sound in Olympia.
