Years ago I read Massad Ayoob’s COMBAT HANDGUNNERY and remember this (may not be an exact quote):
If you have to shoot someone in their attempt to harm you, don’t let any psychiatrist or friend tell you that you will have to live with guilt forever. The guilt belongs to the perp, he wrote his own ticket to Hell.
