To: The Duke

I was as loyal a Republican as you could have found for fifty years. I’m gone. There are more people like me than the GOP realizes. I just can’t handle the lies. I don’t want to be an independent. I wish we conservatives had a party.

William F. Buckley’s brother ran for office as a Conservative Party candidate.
“American jurist, politician, civil servant, attorney, businessman, and author. In 1970, James Buckley was elected to the U.S. Senate as the nominee of the Conservative Party of New York; he won 39 percent of the vote and served from 1971 until 1977.” Later was a judge.

“According to scholar Gerald Russello, Buckley “performed well in New York City itself, at a time when the city still had a beating conservative heart in the middle-class neighborhoods of the outer boroughs”.
