White House announces new program to repair and replace bridges

The White House on Friday announced a new program to repair and replace the nation's bridges through funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law that passed Congress in November.

The announcement comes 60 days after President Joe Biden signed the bill into law and ahead of remarks he will deliver Friday afternoon updating the nation on the law's implementation.

There are more than 43,000 bridges in poor condition across the country, according to 2021 data from the National Bridge Inventory.

The US Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration is launching the Bridge Formula Program, which will provide $26.5 billion to states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico over the next five years, as well as $825 million for tribal bridges, according to a senior administration official.

The official added that the Federal Highway Administration will distribute $5.3 billion to states, DC and Puerto Rico during the 2021 fiscal year, along with $155 million to tribes, the official added.

"This represents the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the interstate highway system," the official said.

Money laundering.
The money will go Democrat cronies for “repairs” and be laundered back in to Democrat coffers.

No they’re talking more about the green deal structures. They’ll probably try to build the bridges out of bamboo sticks ...you know it’s a racist thing and You know the environment is more important to them then breath itself. I hate the rats!

Bridge crews can’t work on empty stomachs. Put food back on shelves first.

Do we have the supplies and equipment?

Oldie but goodie

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House in DC: One is from New York , another is from Tennessee and the third, is from Florida .

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence. The Florida contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. 'Well,' he says, 'I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.' The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, 'I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.'

The New York contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, '$2,700.' The official, incredulous, says, 'You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?' The New York contractor whispers back, '$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.' 'Done!' replies the government official. And that, my friends, is how government contracting works.

What happened to Obama's 'Shovel Ready' for infrastructure money?

Excerpt from Yahoo News: "Back in 2009, former President Barack Obama made some lofty promises about the infrastructure overhaul that his $800 billion economic stimulus plan would provide. Obama used the phrase “shovel-ready projects”. In the end, however, only $98.3 billion of the $800 billion stimulus was dedicated to transportation and infrastructure. Of that $98.3 billion, only about $27.5 billion was actually spent on transportation infrastructure projects."

They can afford $26 billion for bridges but not a measly $10 billion for a border wall?

Washington state will prioritize most of this money on “fish passage barrier removal”. The Tribes and envirowhack jobs came up with this scheme several years ago, went to court and sued WSDOT,and won. The “problem” in a nutshell goes like this:

Every state, county or city road that crosses any stream or creek via a culvert is a “barrier” to migrating salmon and steelhead, which is the life blood of the tribes. It seems that fish don’t like to swim through dark pipes and the culverts also reduce the size of the natural channel.

So WSDOT must now replace thousands of these culverts with bridges. And since no 2 streams or creeks are alike, each replacement must be customed design to a particular location.

And in typical WSDOT fashion, they will allocate about 5% percent of funding to cities and counties and keep 95% for themselves. This forces the cities and counties to use their limited funds that should be used for necessary road repairs or replacements to placate the Tribes.
