That region of China has seasonal hemorrhagic fever outbreaks. Typically in winters when the rats and field mice move indoors with the cold. The hemorrhagic fever is caused by Hanta virus which is passed on in rodent droppings that dry out get aerosolized and inhaled. Simply sweeping up rodent droppings is enough vacuuming them up is even worse. The South West USA periodically has a hanta virus outbreak usually a small number of people in the same households or work place. Hanta virus is hard to pass person to person much like Ebola you have to get blood or other body fluids into your mouth or open skin membranes. Eyes, nose, genitals ECT.

Unless they're doing gain of function research on it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Honestly, I've always believed mankind's doom would come from a bio lab.

I typically joke with friends that a zombie apocalypse is the most plausible sci-fi doomsday story, because all someone has to do is weaponize rabies and we're there.

Well, China is locking down entire cities. If the virus isn’t easily transmitted, why are draconian lockdown measures necessary? Why prevent people from leaving their homes? This is only one reason why our athletes shouldn’t participate in the Genocide Games.
