A third Chinese city has locked down its residents because of a COVID-19 outbreak, raising the number confined to their homes in China to about 20 million people.
The lockdown of Anyang, home to 5.5 million people, was announced late Monday after two cases of the omicron variant were reported. Residents are not allowed to go out and stores have been ordered shut except those selling necessities.
Another 13 million people have been locked down in Xi’an for nearly three weeks, and 1.1 million more in Yuzhou for more than a week. It wasn’t clear how long the lockdown of Anyang would last, as it was announced as a measure to facilitate mass testing of residents, which is standard procedure in China’s strategy of identifying and isolating infected people as quickly as possible.
The lockdowns are the broadest since the shutting down of Wuhan and most of the rest of Hubei province in early 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

I had the same thought. But if China has been playing “gain of function” with Ebola, then all sorts of nastiness is possible. I’ve learned not to rely on the good intentions of despots, nor to underestimate their potential malevolence.

Yes fully aware of GOF. Ebola nor hanta virus in their natural state are airborne. If some bioweapons engineer adds that function then it’s no longer Ebola or hanta virus it’s a biological weapon. This region of China has thousands of cases every year of Hanta then don’t lock down for it. They are however going for a zero covid policy and have no hesitation to lock.people up. The Chinese wouldn’t release a hemorrhagic biological weapon in a remote province inside their own borders they would send it out via travelers and airports world wide just like they did with the CCP bioweapon. Wuhan was an escaped bug once they knew it was out they had no choice but to go with the full global spreading plan. Otherwise only China’s economy would have tanked. They learned a lesson no way they release on purpose a high lethality airborne bug inside their own borders
Unless they're doing gain of function research on it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Honestly, I've always believed mankind's doom would come from a bio lab.
I typically joke with friends that a zombie apocalypse is the most plausible sci-fi doomsday story, because all someone has to do is weaponize rabies and we're there.

With CRISPER tech it wouldn’t be that hard to coat the outside of an Ebola like lipid virus with the protein cost of say measles or a sars covid coat. This would allow it to survive in the air for extended periods of time. Sara covid II has HIV proteins in it thus allowing for universal mammalian infection one of the few virus that can do that. From tigers to minks sars covid II can infect them all. There is a key difference between airborne and aersolized transmission modes. One takes coughing or sneezing putting micron sized particles in the air that carry hundreds to thousands of viri in them. Those settle out rather quickly and don’t travel far. The other is aersolized transmission and that only takes breathing to put submicron sized particles in the atmosphere with tens or less of viri in them. Only very infectious diseases can cause inoculation with tens of individual viri Ebola needs about 50 if someone adds a protein shield to Ebola so it can float in the air that’s a doomsday bioweapon 40+ CFR would collapse society for good

And after watching that video last year of that NYU professor talking about using human engineering to make people allergic to meat, to solve climate change, I don’t trust academics or scientists one bit. If they’re talking about it openly, what are they discussing — or doing — behind closed doors.
I understand that this is most probably plain old Hanta virus. It happens there every year.
But why did they decide to shut the town down this year? This is the first time.
Makes me think something is different about the virus this year, might even be something new.
The reality is that the Chinese were in full panic mode two years ago, because they didn't know what the coronavirus mutant that had escaped the Wuhan lab was going to do. As it turns out, they unleashed a lot of pain on the world. At this point I see it as equally likely that an engineered biological agent will drastically alter the world as we know it as will nuclear weapons.
It’s much more likely that an internal coup would occur if something like this came to light. Even if ethics / morality aren’t involved, Xi would be markedly weakened and the opportunist sharks would come out of the water from everywhere.

A biological agent has altered the world as we know it. The world of 2019 is gone for at least a generation if not forever. The economy that existed is gone, the social fabric is gone. The world is fundamentally different today there is no going back it will take a world war or a full global depression to reset the economic engine. Only two ways forward war or collapse. China is preparing for war so are the Russians we would be wise to follow suit.
