New York state on Monday recorded 54,749 new COVID-19 cases, marking an apparent stabilization of the virus, with 51,698 cases recorded the previous Monday.
Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, gave rise to hope that perhaps the Omicron surge has plateaued in her state, as it has in the United Kingdom.
In South Africa, where it was first detected, the outbreak has peaked and is now rapidly declining.

We usually see some reporting delays around the weekend, but the next day or two should show if this really was the crest that has been predicted.
If not, it will likely be soon, for NYC, if not the whole Country.
CT was down a bit today as well. Tuesday is always higher as they lump Sat/Sun/Tues all in one.
NYS should be next, this week or next.

Health authorities around the U.S. are increasingly taking the extraordinary step of allowing nurses and other workers infected with the coronavirus to stay on the job if they have mild symptoms or none at all.
The move is a reaction to the severe hospital staffing shortages and crushing caseloads that the omicron variant is causing.
California health authorities say hospital staff members who test positive but are symptom-free can continue working.
Some hospitals in Rhode Island and Arizona likewise told employees they can stay on the job if they have no symptoms or just mild ones.
