I saw a similar “bad day” accident in San Mateo back in the early 90s.
A tractor trailer heading west on the elevated section of 92 jackknifed and went over the edge of the freeway. The entire rig was hanging by the rearmost trailer wheels - directly over the SP tracks that run through there.
My guess was that someone cut off the truck, causing it to lose control. (That section of road is notorious for bad driving antics.).
When I went by a CalTrans crew was there with a crane trying to recover the rig.
Ouch. Talk about bad luck! I landed off field but then got hit by a train. The universe is telling this guy something.

That qualifies as having a very bad day.
Couldn't get to a highway, maybe. Needed a flat enough spot, wide enough for the wings to not catch on obstructions.

The plane hadn’t been flown in a few months, it is about 100 yards from my hangar, From what I have found out, it appears he didn’t do a very good job of draining the water out of the fuel tanks and that is what made the engine die on take off.
