We paid a great deal as a nation for NYC and its infrastructure and shold not allow it to be ceded to foreigners. This is not a local issue.

But on paper it is a local issue and it is legal for noncitizens to vote in local elections; it shouldn't be legal but it is as the Constitution is silent on the issue. The Constitution only requires voters for federal office to be citizens.

There are already a dozen or so cities that allow noncitizens to vote and the closest to me is Takoma Park, MD which has allowed noncitizens to vote for well over a decade. The city has two sets of registrations - one for local and the other for state and federal. This went through the court system and passed muster.

The only solution at this point is a constitutional amendment, which is easier said than done and the Republicans don't have the intestinal fortitude required to get it through Congress.
