Name changes have happened in history.

Peking became Beijing
Persia became Iran
Siam became Thailand
Bombay became Mumbai

I’m sure there are many others. I know some African countries changed names when they became independent countries rather than colonies of European countries.

"East Albania Southern Serbia Western Bulgaria Macedonia, dammit (pronounced "Make-It-Own-Ya!", Greek: Μακεδονια) is, as far as scholars can tell from the flag, a part of imperial Japan. This, however is not recognized by the world, because of the dispute with Faroe Islands."

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Has been its official name since establishment of the republic in 1923.

This is just a change in transliteration to better indicate pronunciation.
