Newsom, Democrats Go for Californians’ Guns
epoch times ^

Posted on 01/08/2022 6:00:09 PM PST by algore

Even as crime is surging in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom and his allies in the legislature are seeking to make it more difficult for citizens to defend themselves.

This week, Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) introduced Assembly Bill 1594, which reads, “This bill would specify that a gun industry member has created or maintained a public nuisance, as defined, if their failure to follow federal, state, or local law caused injury or death or if the gun industry member engaged in unfair business practices.”

It’s a blatant attempt to bankrupt the gun companies, a clear violation of the Second Amendment “right of the people to keep and bear arms.” The 2008 Heller decision by the U.S. Supreme Court clearly affirmed that meant an individual right, not just that of a state militia. And a right obviously can only be exercised if one has the physical means to do so.

For example, the First Amendment right to freedom “of the press” can only be exercised if paper companies are not impeded in their business of selling paper to publishers and the public. If the “paper industry” could be sued because, say, terrorists used paper to publish plans for attacks, then paper would go up in cost so high the exercise of freedom “of the press” would be impinged.

AB 1594 was introduced after Newsom reacted against a U.S. Supreme Court action that let stand, for now, a Texas law allowing private citizens to sue abortion providers. It’s by no means clear the court will let that law stand permanently. But Newsom said in a Dec. 11 statement, “If states can now shield their laws from review by the federal courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people’s lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm’s way.”

Newsom’s spokesperson, Daniel Lopez, reiterated that sentiment in a statement Tuesday, “So long as the United States Supreme Court has set a precedent which allows private citizens to sue to stop abortions in Texas, California will use that same ability to save lives.”

as worded above, looks to me the business or its employees being held liable if the business or its employees do not follow local, state and fed laws.

Which as a gun business, you bet their ass they do.

Says nothing about suing business or personnel for a customer issue.

This is my take on what’s worded above tho

So long as the United States Supreme Court has set a precedent which allows private citizens to sue to stop abortions in Texas, California will use that same ability to save lives.

Some amusing logic there - apparently saving babies' lives is to be compared to protecting the lives of criminals from citizens defending themselves. You really don't have to ask whose side they're on, do you?

Where does the state of California buy weapons? Why are those companies still doing business with California?

They used the term “assault weapons” which is vague and therefore meaningless. It’s a pejorative used to trigger (ahem) mind-controlled liberals into supporting whatever nonsense is being proposed.

Ask any libtard on the street what the tech specs are for an “assault weapon” and you”ll get the DITH (deer in the headlights) response.

U-Haul is where I learned how to drive 26ft trucks without brakes. I had three lessons.

I’ve lived in CA almost all my life and finally bought my first firearms last month. Too much crime and lawlessness. It was time.

Precisely why I do not step foot in California, nonstop flights over that liberal cesspool. Of course, no idea what the status of my cowardly neighbor’s TRO is, so best stay out.

Every article I read about the state of my birth pisses me off. It was paradise for 40 years, starting to get weird at 50, and I bailed out shortly after.

My wife has relatives still there she insists are conservative, but I dunno.

"...U-Haul is where I learned how to drive 26ft trucks without brakes..."

I rented one to do a move from NJ to VA a number of years ago.
I picked it up at the rental place and headed to my soon-to-be
former home to load up.

At least the radiator had the courtesy to blow before I even got
it home and loaded up. Let alone on the trip itself.

They had to come tow it away and give me a different truck.

In before the CA FReepers descend on this thread and brag how their state is the sixth-largest economy in the world (which is a misleading stat) and how beautiful the weathers and beaches are and how they donate the most to FR.

Guns kill people? I have NEVER seen a gun kill someone... only the person who pulled the trigger.

Is Newsom going to ban cars, planes, trains, cigarettes, alcohol, candy, pizza, ice-cream, burgers, and kitchen knives?

It’s such hypocrisy when government claims that mask and vax mandates are to save lives... but they’re perfectly okay with the food/drug/alcohol/tobacco industries manufacturing POISONS... destructive products that are advertised as safe to consume, but are responsible for killing millions each year, obesity and diabetic kidney failure.

Democrat Politicians: “We must stop people dying from COVID! It’s about saving lives!”

John Q. Public: “What about automobile deaths, accidents, suicides, alcohol/smoking, drugs and suicides? Influenza, heat/cold related deaths; and heart, cancer and liver disease deaths? What about bad decisions, taking risks, dying from natural causes and old age?”

Democrat Politician: “Where’s your Vax Card!? You must be a member of the unvaxxed cult and a racist! That makes you a Domestic Terrorist! Arrest this man!”
