One of our younger male DNA pools left N. California when he was about 22 and stayed in Portland for about 2+ decades.
At first he loved it, then the low life took over many neighborhoods, like the ones he could afford to live in.
At first he condemned friends, who moved out of Portland, and finally those that left later, convinced him to leave. In fact a long time friend had bailed out of Portland to raise his family in the Seattle area. That friend was the one got our son to move to Portland.
Then, another friend of his, still in this area offered our son a job and he moved back.
16 years later, he and his love of his life live in a smaller city and often don’t lock their door when they go shopping or to buy a meal.
Most of his many Portland friends have moved out of Portland and most went out of state with the exception of a widowed former landlady. The apartment, that he had lived in has been broken into several times. This woman is a 3rd generation Portland person, and she refuses to believe what is happening even to her home and the apartment below her home.
His friends still staying in Oregone now live and work in red counties. Even in those counties, their local sheriffs have told them and their neighbors to call each other if you are scared or see possible invaders.
