I would agree that in almost all hunting situations a proper caliber rifle and bullet combination.
Is easier to shoot and to place ones bullet.
But that does not change the fact that a properly placed handgun bullet is also very lethal.
Nor the fact that handguns for the most part are easier to keep on you and carry when one needs both hands available.
If one doesn’t have the skill needed to use one or the other.
They should stick to the one that is better suited to their skill level.

..... old custom mauser with controlled round feed and custom bottom metal 5+1 capacity with irons and a boonie-packer sling in 35 Whelen (225gr) has been my primary hunting rifle since I was stationed in Alaska 70’s and the lower 48 states for Elk & Mule Deer. I’ve relied on it for every hunt but have never been charged or threatened by a bear. When dressing out game and hunting I will try an have at least 3 in the hunting party and in bear or cat country 2 of us are on watch while one is cutting. A 5 inch stainless ruger redhawk in 44 mag is my sidearm in bear or cat county , loaded with 240gr Hardcast fodder..... I love my 35 Whelen & 44 Magnum.......

I was out in the woods where both meth heads and black bears roam. While a bit light for a large grizzly, I felt better carrying my .40 pistol loaded with Fort Scott solid copper ammunition. Will go through a car door with the window rolled down and still penetrate deep into a gel block and then tumbles.
In Alaska for field work I carry a 12-gauge with Brennake slugs.
