Perhaps in this case, but I’m thinking generally, with Governors pitting their executive and emergency powers (of dubious legitimacy sometimes) against the federal government’s executive powers which are being abused as well.
We haven’t seen a situation quite like that since before the Civil War, and even then it was the Federal legislative power pitted against the state legislative powers. This is a whole different ballgame, where executives everywhere are pushing the limits of their authority and butting heads against other would-be dictators. Even the ones that may be implementing those powers to do things we politically agree with can set a troubling precedent.
