Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez said Monday he’s “not going to give up” trying to reach an agreement with the Chicago Teachers Union that averts a districtwide move to remote learning amid a spike in city COVID-19 cases. “I visited six schools today, and our network chiefs were visiting schools across the city. And one of the things that we saw was just significant differences across schools,” Martinez told the Tribune before describing some schools that recorded low staff and student attendance and other schools with opposite experiences. “When I saw that today, it just, for me, confirmed that we need to have a solution that’s at the school level, where we can be nimble, where we can respond to what’s happening.”

Yep. I’m sure you could find plenty of people with relevant math, science, English, etc. in the area to teach.
Just what Chicago needs, more teens on the streets.
It would be fitting if all non union citizens up and left so that the only ones remaining are the PU employees with no to give services to or pay their wages and benefits except each other.
RE: Chicago schoolteachers are some of the highest paid in the US with a generous retirement package that exceeds the salaries of most that are working.

And now they are too selfish and lazy to work.
Dear Teacher,
Like a candle
that burns itself to spread light
by working hard day and night
just like flowers give away
fragrance that they can’t smell
you have made our lives blossom
in ways that words can’t tell

STOP PAYING THESE (I can’t even call them) (Gag me) “TEACHERS”
Wow!
They want increased testing. Of who? Fellow teachers? The kids?
Jen responded to this question yesterday by saying Biden would support the teachers unions AND keeping classes open. Typical non-answer answer and firmly planted on the fence.
73% voted to stay home
Biden can’t and won’t do anything, it’s the mayor and perhaps the governor’s baby.
Why should the federal gov’t get involved?
Biden has given them millions of dollars.
I don’t think Trump would weigh into it either, but let the teacher’s spin, and let the democrat mayor deal with it.
There’s a video out there. A teacher doing the remote learning thing with a small class. She asks a question, none of the kids are answering. All of a sudden and completely nude woman walks into the room of one of the kids and is there, for all to see, as naked as the day she was born.
Not a reaction from any of the kids. Teacher started freaking out. Nothing from the kids.
For me, my first question is....should a parent be doing that? I think not.
I’d call that overwhelming.
I’m willing to bet some are so scared they will teach remote from FL.
Egg-zackly.....no way of knowing where they’ll be. As long as they have the internet they could be on a cruise in the Caribbean.
Give’m enough rope and...
Waddya bet most of them are still vacationing in a red state.
Yep. If Chicago was smart, which they aren’t, they would at least demand the teachers report for work in the buildings as usual.
This is bad news for dumb kids.
The smart one’s will accelerate, the dumb will regress.
Start a parental education coop. Teach your kids your way with your choice of teachers.
The smart kids know more than most teachers, they figure it out and move on.
So can hospital workers refuse to see patients in person as well
