Putin lashes out at Germany for 'sawing the branch they sit on' during EU gas crisis

...Normally the Yamal-Europe, which is Europe's longest gas pipeline, transports Russian natural gas overland to Germany and Western Europe. However, in the past week, it has been redirecting gas from Germany to Poland to make up for a shortfall of fuel as temperatures drop to -10C and Russia cuts gas supplies.

On Sunday, German network operator Gascade claimed Russia sent the fuel back to Poland for a sixth straight day – a huge blow to the EU, where gas prices have been skyrocketing.

The ownership of Gascade — part Russian, part German — suggests the issues are the result of a political feud....

...Speaking to the Russian media, Putin blamed the ongoing gas crisis on importers like Germany and France and their failure to sign long-term supply contracts....

monopoly or no gas? Which puts Germany in a real bind because Germany just shuttered two of their four remaining reactors.

Funny how all these anti fossil fuel “climate change” crazies start screaming for more fossil fuel natural gas when they start freezing in winter.
Chuckle.

Spring of 2020, the Russian natural gas in Germany was around 35-to-37 percent...the rest brought in by UK, Denmark, and Sweden distributors. If this was an exceptionally bad winter (yet to occur), then it’d be a massive amount of chaos.

I would suggest this will ramp up alternate sites, and the cash-crunch for Russia...by mid-summer 2022, will be a problem openly discussed as the Russian billionaires start to whine over missing income.

In the meantime inflation in Western Europe will obviously increase and that is the best case. The worst case is that this is merely a warning shot across the bow of Western Europe not to interfere with any Russian moves on Ukraine.

Correct. Inflation in France (fall 2021), 3.2-percent. Austria (Jan 2022) inflation is 2.45-percent. Germany (Nov 2021), 5.2-percent inflation.

All that talk in December that things were ‘curving’ back to normal for 2022? I noticed on Monday....new chatter in Germany that the better conditions for 2022 is being dragged back, with inflation figured to be a minimum of 4-percent for all of 2022.

Lot of this is Covid-stagnation, job-market crapped-up, and small businesses spiraling still.
