Upton and Huizenga will have to run against each other to remain in Congress

If they both decide to run, two Michigan congressman will be facing off against each other in the August 2022 Republican primary.

The new U.S. House map drawn up by the Michigan redistricting committee puts incumbent Republicans Fred Upton and Bill Huizenga both in the 4th District. Huizenga says he is running, while Upton, the longest-serving Congressman in the state, has not made an announcement.

The 3rd District would also shift to include Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, and Muskegon and Congressman Pete Meijer plans to run. He made his announcement Tuesday

“Michigan’s new Third Congressional District, including my hometown of Grand Rapids, represents many Kent County communities in our current district while also adding Grand River and lakeshore communities with shared interests in clean water and conservation. I am running for re-election to represent these amazing West Michigan communities in Congress.”

Michigan lost one congressional district in the latest census.

Fred Upton is a liberal republican, an Arlen Specter type, and one of the impeachment ten.

My guess is that Upton will "choose" to retire rather than face a primary that he'll lose.

And then, just like Kinzinger and Gonzalez, he'll be gone. And good riddance to him!

Let it be so! Kate's Uncle Fred has been on my S-List ever since he voted that the incandescent light bulb be deemed an existential threat to mankind.

“Fred Upton is a liberal republican, an Arlen Specter type, and one of the impeachment ten.”

Meijer is a liberal piece-of-shit impeachment stooge too. Huizenga doesn’t strike me as being overly conservative either, but he’s the best of this bunch and therefore will likely be the odd man out; hopefully he’ll challenge Upton and win.

The Grand Rapids area has been trending hard-left over the past few years, and the new district which encompasses it actually favors a Democrat pickup now so Meijer could be gone too, not that anyone would notice very much if he were replaced by a liberal Democrat nutjob. Republicans are supposed to be able to make gains elsewhere on this new “independent commission”-generated map (the new 10th district + maybe Slotkin’s and Kildee’s seats) but we’ll have to wait and see about that. It would be great to see that Slotkin bitch kicked to the curb.

One other incumbent liberal Democrat is going to get snuffed in Oakland County, because 2 of them are going to have to run against each other in the primary (and then easily win the general election) unless one decides to retire.

Note: Slotkin's new district, though still slightly tilted to the right according to so-called experts, has been trending hard-left too in recent years as the liberal sewage seeps out from Lansing & East Lansing into the suburban areas, and this new map actually makes it a little SAFER for her than the current one.

Also, this "former" Deep State operative always has a lot of "geld" to spend in the course of buying her way into Congress, vastly outspending and defeating a Republican incumbent in 2018 and outspending her opponent by a similar amount in 2020 to buy the seat again. For 2022, no serious Republican has yet decided to take her on.

Upton is the quintessential Bush League Republican.

We can’t keep re-electing Assistant Democrats and expect anything but them assisting the Democrats.

A couple of weeks ago I dumped a brand new, unopened box of 12 of the corkscrew light bulbs into the hazardous waste bin at the dump.

Looks like Upton will be out. 3 of the 10 down. 7 to go - including that other turd from Michigan, Meijer.
