APTOS—The family of the 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death on the Aptos High School campus in August has filed a claim against Pajaro Valley Unified School District, alleging that the district was negligent in ending the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, and in not adequately monitoring the two students responsible for the attack.

Aptos is a mostly white high income area Aptos High was a mostly white student body Busing was started to increase student body diversity Faculty became extremely liberal politically The SRO (Student Resource Officer) was eliminated
"The board canceled the SRO program in July 2020, citing input from community members, who said that having a law enforcement official on campus intimidated some students. They also say that a law enforcement response—rather than a socio-emotional one—was the wrong approach in dealing with at-risk students."
The attacking student was on probation, had a knife incident on campus, was suspended for two days prior to the fatal incident.
I say good luck to parents with kids in school these days.
“...having a law enforcement official on campus intimidated some students.”
KSBW indicates that the SRO program has been reinstated.
The parents should have soild case.
“suspended for two days” for having a knife on campus?
Not very long ago, that would have been permanent expulsion, not a slap on the wrist suspension.
Too bad that Aptos got taken over by Bay Area libs. They are paying the price.
Why haven’t one or more Pajaro Valley Unified School District officials been charged with unintentional manslaughter because of their irresponsible actions and failure to protect students?
Ping.
Because the system protects its own. They [the Pajaro Valley Unified School District officials] are part of the System. It is “Them” against “us”. They are the “Them. We are the “Us”.
Not much longer ago than that, everyone had a knive or a high caliber hunting weapon and there was none of this. No amount of resource officers can make an impact like kids whose parent will physically punish disrespectful and disruptive children from the very youngest of ages.
More cops and officers cannot fix this.
Same reason the bank robbers are ‘intimidated’ by bank alarms!
“More cops and officers cannot fix this.”
Absolutely correct. The immoral breakdown of society cannot be fixed with more policing. I always thought that “School Resource Officers” were a terribly sad commentary on society and doomed to fail. One officer cannot be everywhere at all times. This crime occurred in the summer and I doubt the SROs would have been there at that time anyway.
“Not very long ago, that would have been permanent expulsion, not a slap on the wrist suspension.”
We carried knives when we were in grade school. I had a Davy Crockett folder.
based on everything in the article, my conclusion is that that the school district was GROSSLY negligent, and i hope those parents whose lives they’ve ruined by allowing their son to be murdered during the school’s guardianship will win hundreds of millions of dollars ...
I doubt that a little pocketknife was used.
I was in high school in the early 1970s and we had students put their shotguns in their wall lockers, so they could hunt right after school. No one thought anything about it.
In 1974 my shop teacher brought in his new deer rifle to show it off to everyone. We all got to handle it. I remember how shiny it was and I can still remember the smell of the machine oil.
It was one of The Highlights of my high school years.
