Live in western CO now ... lived in Colorado Springs at the base of Cheyenne Mountain (NORAD complex just up-slope). Very strong winds are common place all along the foothills of the front range. Closer to the fire area which is just east of Boulder they are so strong that the railway tracks have coal cars filled with gravel parked on the sidings to provide wind protection ... to trains on the main line. They have been parked there so long (welded in place) that vegetation, shrubs & small trees are growing in the open rail cars. This was prompted by rail cars being blown over ... frequently enough that the railroad established the wind barrier.

Old Town Superior (downtown) has burned along with many homes, total homes lost so far estimated at 600. They can’t fight it, too much wind, probably loss of life it hit so fast in some areas.
